Frequently asked questions
What is the best water-to-coffee ratio for a French Press?
For a classic, full-bodied French Press, we recommend a 1:15 ratio. This means for every 1 gram of coffee, use 15 grams of water. For our Cowboy Blend, this brings out the deep chocolate notes without the sediment bitterness.
Why does my green tea taste bitter?
Bitterness in tea is almost always caused by scorching. Green tea leaves are delicate; never use boiling water. Aim for 75°C to 80°C. If you don't have a temperature-controlled kettle, let the water sit for 2 minutes after boiling before pouring.
How does grind size affect coffee flavor?
Think of grind size as "surface area." A fine grind (Espresso) extracts flavor very fast. A coarse grind (French Press) extracts slowly. If your coffee is too sour, your grind is likely too coarse. If it’s too bitter, you’ve ground it too fine.
Can I re-steep Bellofatto loose-leaf tea?
Absolutely. High-quality teas like our Oolong or Masala Chai are designed for multiple infusions. In fact, the second or third steep often reveals more complex floral notes as the leaves fully unfurl.
What is the "Bloom" in pour-over coffee?
The bloom is the rapid release of carbon dioxide when hot water first hits fresh grounds. We recommend a 30-second bloom for all Bellofatto Brews to ensure the water can fully penetrate the bean for a balanced extraction.
Does water quality matter for tea and coffee?
Since coffee and tea are 98% water, yes. Use filtered water whenever possible. Heavily chlorinated or "hard" water will mask the subtle fruit and nut notes in our specialty roasts.
